What is the difference between Economy Plus/Comfort and Premium Economy cabins?

To ensure consistency and comparability across all carriers worldwide, ch-aviation applies a standardised methodology when classifying cabin configurations. The distinction between Economy Plus/Comfort and Premium Economy is determined by the number of seats per row, measured against the maximum physical seating capacity of the aircraft type.

ch-aviation only classifies a cabin as Premium Economy (W) if the maximum number of seats per row (Max Abreast) is at least 2 seats fewer than the maximum number of seats that could physically be fitted in Economy Class for that specific aircraft type.

For example, on a Boeing 777 — where the maximum Economy Class abreast configuration is 10 seats — a cabin would only qualify as Premium Economy if it has a maximum of 8 seats per row or fewer. If the reduction in seating per row does not meet this threshold, the cabin is classified as Economy Plus/Comfort (YP) instead.

This approach ensures that Premium Economy is only applied where there is a meaningful and measurable difference in the physical space offered to passengers, making fleet comparisons more accurate and reliable across the platform.
